Two great composers; two magical tales. From tender opening to exuberant finish, you’ll never take a happier journey in the company of a grand piano than Brahms’s Second Piano Concerto, and pianist Martin Helmchen will drench it with poetry. As for Prokofiev’s enchanting, tongue-in-cheek take on the story of Cinderella – well, let’s just say that with Bolshoi veteran Alexander Vedernikov conducting, you really shall go to the ball!

In December 1853 Dickens chose A Christmas Carol for his first ever public reading in Town Hall, where “notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, nearly 2,000 persons had assembled.”

Santa's Grotto at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery
Make your museum visit extra special by popping along to our festive family grotto this Christmas. Open weekends only. Based in the heart of the museum the glittering grotto will get children and families in the festive spirit with everything from twinkling lights, piles of snow and of course...Santa! Every child will receive a gift and a unique memento of the occasion with a special printed photograph of themselves with Santa.

Shoe Box Snow Scenes at Winterbourne House and Gardens
Capture the magic of Christmas in a scene housed in a shoe box – make it snow, fill it with glittery trees and inhabit it with a reindeer, arctic fox or people of your making. Artist Claire Leggett will help children and their grown-ups to create some Christmas craft fun at Winterbourne. Just bring a shoe box if you have one and wear clothes that can get a little messy. Materials will be provided.

The Bournville Christmas Festival
Activities are focused around the village green. There is lots going on with craft making at Bournville Community Hub, a Christmas market at St Francis Church, street food, shops selling festive gifts, a grotto, the Carillon playing festive favourites and much more.

Enchanted Woodland Walk at Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens
Fabulous afternoons full of woodland magic, light, lanterns and entertainment. The pre-Christmas offering this year includes enchanting illuminated walks around the garden, spotting our mushroom village houses under the trees, behind the hedge and even up in the branches.

Pop along to the Pen Museum on Sunday 3rd December and make your own Christmas gift tags. This festive calligraphy and craft workshop will help you pick out your gift tags and decorations whilst teaching you specialist calligraphy fonts to apply to them. No need to book, just turn up and drop-in on the day
