Top Birmingham artist, Temper, has given the Christmas Grotto at House of Fraser Corporation Street a magical makeover for 2017.
To make sure the department store’s fifth-floor grotto remains as popular as ever Retail BID Birmingham and House of Fraser partnered with sought-after artist Temper. Famous for his spray can art and contemporary oil paintings, Temper has created a stunning cobbled walkway and new mesmerising Northern Lights feature. Corporation Street arts and crafts supplies store Cass Art supplied the paints to help create the magical scenes.
House of Fraser’s much-loved traditional Grotto will bring back the true spirit of Christmas, offering a dose of nostalgia for all the family to enjoy when it opens its doors on Thursday, November 30.
As children enter the Grotto they will be immersed in an enchanting winter wonderland and all children will be able to meet Santa and his elves.
Santa’s Grotto is located on the 5th floor, next to the Christmas Shop and Hamley’s Toy Department. Entry costs £6 per child and includes meeting Santa and a quality toy. There is also a chance to purchase professional photographs, snow frames and baubles to capture the memories.
The Grotto will be open from 11am-5pm every day, Thursdays until 7pm and Saturdays 10am-6pm. It will close on Christmas Eve at 3pm. Grotto tickets are available to buy from the House of Fraser website https://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/christmas/santas-grotto .
As part of a nationwide scheme the grotto will have an autism-friendly quiet hour and special gift between 11am to 12noon on December 5th/6th/12th/13th. All House of Fraser grotto staff including Santa and his elves have carried out autism awareness training as part of the scheme.
All profits made from tickets will be donated to Action for Children charity, House of Fraser’s Corporate charity. Action for Children has services in Birmingham and the surrounding area including Birmingham Community Children’s Centre.
Parminder Sahota, Store Manager at House of Fraser said: “We are delighted to bring back the ever popular magical grotto for another year. The Grotto at House of Fraser brings back so many memories for people in the city, and year after year we get such wonderful feedback from parents and children. Christmas is all about being merry and making memories.
“I am proud to be supporting Action for Children charity during this festive period, a charity which provides vital support to the most disadvantaged children, young people and their families in the heart of local communities across the UK.”
Steve Hewlett, Retail BID Birmingham Manager, said: “We know just how popular the House of Fraser Christmas Grotto is to families across the Midlands and with the addition of Temper’s unique artworks it promises to be even better this year.”
House of Fraser’s restaurant on the 6th Floor will offer a child to eat for £1 with the purchase of every adult’s hot main meal (Monday to Sunday lunchtime from 30th November until Christmas Eve) upon production of a valid grotto ticket.
