Colmore Business District employees looking for an energetic way to start the day will be sorting out their best clubbing outfits for the District’s first ever rave.
The rave, called Morning Gloryville, is being held as part of next month’s Birmingham International Dance Festival (BIDF), which returns to the city from June 1-24.
BIDF is produced by Birmingham-based DanceXchange, funded by Arts Council England and Birmingham City Council. Colmore BID is sponsoring the Festival Square, which will take over Victoria Square with a packed programme of fantastic dance performances along with free drop-in workshops and events from 1-10 June.
BIDF will bring the best of international dance to the city and provide a platform for local talent to shine, and will celebrate Birmingham as a young, diverse city, a place where anything is possible, where the extraordinary happens in the most unexpected spaces.
The Festival opens on Friday June 1 with the Morning Gloryville rave in Victoria Square. It is described as a popular, immersive morning dance experience for those who want to start their day in style and dare to challenge morning culture.
Starting at 7am, it is the ultimate, exhilarating wake up call. You can treat yourself to a massage or limber up with yoga. Once invigorated and fully charged, the morning rave is a fun and healthy way to relax your mind, shake off your inhibitions and plug into the collective life force of the dance floor.
As part of their support Colmore BID is offering free entry to Morning Gloryville to the first 50 people who sign up for tickets at www.bidf.co.uk (subject to availability). Just follow the links to Morning Gloryville and use the code DANCECOLMORE to sign up.
BIDF is also offering Colmore BID members the option to sign up to four exclusive workshops: an African Dance Workout at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery on Tuesday June 12, 1pm-2pm and Charleston/Solo Jazz at Birmingham Cathedral on Thursday June 14, 5.30pm-6.15pm. Two outdoor workshops will be held in Victoria Square; Soul Train on Thursday June 14, 5.30pm-6.15pm and Street Dance on Friday June 8, 5.15pm-6pm.
Colmore BID Chairman, Gary Cardin, said: “What better way to start your day than with a fun and healthy rave in the heart of Colmore Business District!
“We want the Business District to be a key part of events such as Birmingham International Dance Festival and we’re encouraging people to experience Morning Gloryville or any of the other workshops or lessons taking part throughout June. It doesn’t matter whether you can or cannot dance, come along with friends and have some fun.”
Lucie Mirkova, Artistic Director Birmingham International Dance Festival said: “Our city is increasingly becoming a place where people expect and enjoy amazing outdoor events and want to be part of the action themselves and we hope we have created plenty of opportunities for people to engage with BIDF.
“Whatever your experience you can join in, from simply turning up on the day to give new dance styles a chance, watching performances, or even getting your dance group involved. And if you want to feel a real part of the Festival then join our team of amazing volunteers, we really couldn’t deliver the Festival without them!”
